Macron Stadium in Bolton – March 2017 Fundraising Report
Saturday 25th March saw us perform for Cancer Research as their corporate event band at the fantastic White’s Hotel which is contained within the Macron Stadium in Bolton. This is an amazing function room which is absolutely cavernous, enough space for over 800 people so we were in for a fab night! The hotel is just a short drive up the M61 for us, travelling from Manchester and once we battled the traffic at around 5.30pm we arrived ready for the load-in and set-up (always a fun part of the night, not!).
25 Year Anniversary of Bolton Hospice – Music and Dancing
The event was to celebrate the 25 year anniversary of Bolton Hospice and was a mixture of fundraising, a formal meal with live music and dancing to follow. We’ve performed at a few functions for Bolton Hospice in the past, so were delighted when they asked us to come back and help them celebrate their silver anniversary.
For this gig we provided all the PA and lighting for the stage which really makes a difference, as we like to create a party atmosphere when we play. For most gigs we bring along a mix of static lights to brighten the stage and also some moving lights to give the event a bit more of a disco vibe! Our setup and soundcheck took around 90 minutes, and then it was upstairs to our dressing room to get ready for our performance.
From Motown to Modern – An Eclectic Mix of Songs
At 9.30pm we took to the stage and within about 20 seconds of the first song the dancefloor was packed – what a great crowd! We played a mix of material for this event, starting the night with some old school soul and Motown (think Stevie Wonder, Temptations etc) and then moving through some classics (Walking on Sunshine, Valerie, Higher & Higher etc).
We always save the more uptempo songs for the second set when everyone is a little more ‘relaxed’! By far the most popular song of the night though was Mr Brightside by the Killers – I think they needed a bigger dancefloor for this one!
We also provided a DJ service for this gig and we finished the night off with a selection of songs for the partygoers to dance to. At midnight, a happy (and exhausted!) 800 people left the venue, having had a fantastic evening’s entertainment. This was followed by a swift 45 minute pack up for us we headed back down the M61 to Manchester – Job Done!
