The Ultimate Wedding Band Guide

It’s wedding season! Always a busy time for us so we’ve put together a guide to help you out if you’re thinking about booking a band for your wedding.

What Music will a Wedding Band play?

Typically we like to play a mix of material from various genres and from the 50’s right through to this year’s hits. Check our our full repertoire for all the songs we play, but here’s a selection of the artists we feature:

Stevie WonderBruno MarsAmy Winehouse
PrinceMichael JacksonChic
The SupremesEd SheeranBon Jovi
Whitney HoustonElvis PresleyThe Killers
The BeatlesQueenJames Brown

Would a band be suitable for my wedding?

Usually we are the headline event in the evening and we like to end the day with a real bang, providing music to dance to and to give you and your guests a high energy and memorable ‘crescendo’ to the day. Don’t forget we also can provide some more low key live music for during the wedding breakfast or during the wedding drinks reception, for more information see our additional options page. A wedding band can also personalise the evening by playing your first dance and can provide a DJ service so that you have entertainment throughout the night.

It can work out considerable cheaper to hire one band for the whole day as travel costs are already included and the PA and lighting will have been included.

Space Considerations

Bear in mind that the larger the live band, the more space they will require. Our smallest line-up is the 5-piece which needs 4m x 3m and the biggest is the 8-piece which needs 5m x 3.

How long will you take to setup?

We bring the full setup, which includes PA and lots of lighting to really add to the impact. Usually we take around an hour to get setup and be ready to play some background music and then an extra 30 minutes to get changed before we are ready to play some live music. These timings depend a little on access and whether we need to use a lift (which will mean times are a little longer).

I’d like to hire a band, what will they need at the Venue?

  • An appropriately sized, flat and safe stage or performance area
  • Parking provision with easy access to the function room
  • Somewhere secure to get changed (no toilets please) and to store valuables
  • Power – a minimum of four 13 amp power sockets
  • Refreshments: hot meals for each member of the band and support and soft drinks for the duration of their booking

How long will you play for?

We typically play 2 x 45 minute sets if performing as the 5-piece option and then 2 x 60 minutes as a 6-piece or 8-piece. Sometimes we split the 2 hours into 3 x 40 minute sets if this fits with the evening buffet a little better. We’re completely flexible in the evening in case your timings move around a little, and usually take a break of around 15-30 minutes between sets, during which time we will provide background music.
